Is this Psychotherapy?  Is this home design?   What is this?

Heart Your Home Love Your Life is a unique combination of both. It was created on the understanding that our conscious and unconscious patterns are reflected in the way we use, decorate, and share our physical environments.   We’ll identify the ways that your home either supports or distracts you from living the life you want to live and will make changes in the space to support you living your best life.

What can I expect from the sessions?

We’ll gather information about your life and your home (what’s working and what’s not working).  We will hone in on the areas in your life in which you feel most stuck so we can help you move through them and feel happier and less stressed.  We will talk about how these stuck areas might be showing up in your home.

Through observing, talking, and using artistic methods, we will uncover the ways that your home is mirroring the stuckness that you feel in life.  We will make observations about the feelings you have while inside of your home and how those feelings change in different areas of your home.  We will look at the objects you have inside of your home and will explore their meaning.  We will explore how you are using rooms.  We might spend a session creating a “feeling map” of your home that is a visual depiction of your feelings about your home.  As our work progresses, we may actually move furniture, clear our clutter, take down or put new art on the walls, or change how a space is used.

I feel like I’ve done a good job at decorating my home (maybe I’ve even hired a professional decorator).  Could I still benefit from this service?

Absolutely!  Even if a home looks beautiful, it still may have areas of “stuckness” that reflect our own “stuckness.”  Working with a designer can even disconnect us (though not always) from accessing our own innate wisdom related to our home.  In our work together, I will listen to you and what your inner expert already knows about your home and your relationship to it.   Our work will ensure that your home reflects who you are and who you want to become.

Is this work only for homes or can we talk about my office?

Many difficulties that employees and bosses experience relate to the physical environment in which they work.  Issues related to power, efficiency, and community can all manifest in the way that work spaces are arranged and used.  Implementing this work at your office will ensure increased productivity, teamwork, and work satisfaction.

What can I hope and expect to get out of doing this work?

You will understand how your home and life are connected and how your home was keeping you stuck in life. You will have changed your home to make it reflective of who you are and who you want to become.  You might be using rooms in your house differently.  You might have cleared out things from your house that don’t reflect who you want to be in your life.  Maybe you will have realized that the “storage” room needs to become your home office.  You might have realized that holding onto the furniture you bought with your EX has prevented you from moving into a new relationship.  You will have let go of that piece of art that makes you feel depressed and will have replaced it with something that uplifts you.  You may be more aware that your depression and stress is actually visible in the way you don’t use your home and neglect to decorate or clean it.  You will feel happy and inspired when you enter your home.  It will be a place that calms and uplifts you.  You will be directly moving towards all that you want out of life.

What will I NOT get out of doing this work?

If you are simply looking for design advice, Feng Shui suggestions, or someone who will organize your space, this is not the right option for you.  You would be better served by hiring an interior designer, a Feng Shui consultant, or a professional organizer.  This work is meant only for people who are genuinely interested in self exploration.

What is the Body-Centered connection?

I am a Body-Centered Psychotherapist.  I pay close attention to the sensations in my own body to gain information about my experiences and teach my clients to do the same.  Our bodily sensations are messages that help inform us about our moment to moment experience of the world.  Using Body-Centered methods helps us get clear information about how we feel about living in our homes.  Our bodies will always give us the information we are looking for if we can learn to listen to them.

Who is an ideal client for this work?

This work is ideal for anyone ready for true and lasting change in their lives.  It is excellent for couples struggling to find connection and intimacy in their relationship.  It is helpful for children who have trouble relaxing and feeling calm and motivated.  It is ideal for adults who might be stuck or unmovitvated in their lives.  This work is for anyone who knows that their life can be much more than it is but are having a hard time getting there.

Who is this work NOT ideal for?

This work is NOT suited for anyone who is not ready to do the sometimes difficult work it takes to really transform their lives.  It is not suited for people who want a quick fix or simply want design advice.  It is not suited for people who want several sessions of “advice.”

What if my house is too small or if I live in one room?

There is never too small—or too large—of a space to work with.  The meanings of our homes are present within every space we inhabit. I have applied this work to individual rooms, mobile homes, cubicles, offices, trailers, and entire houses.

Do you offer traditional psychotherapy work?

Yes.  I have a private psychotherapy practice in Worcester, MA where I integrate Body-Centered, psychodynamic, and play therapy techniques for children and adults.
